Suna North MP Millie Mabona has taken an issue with an illustration on the Thursday Standard, which she says depicts women leadership in a disrespectful way. Taking to Facebook, the vocal legislator who firmly believes in woman power, tore into the media house’s editorial department for continuously allowing this trend to continue.

”I must show my extreme displeasure with the Standard Newspapers for the very sexist content appearing in the cartoon section yesterday or day before in relation to Governor Anne Waiguru. You can use caricature against a woman leader without making it about their body and sexuality,” the MP protested.

Even though the media house had previously taken action against the cartoonist, Millie says it was not over his sexist content against women but due to political pressure.

”Even though Nation Media at one point took action against the said cartoonist, it was unfortunately not because of the sexist content of his cartoons ( I have been a target) but because of apparent political pressure,” she continued.

”When you run a newspaper, you control editorial content in all form. The person responsible at all time is the newspaper not the cartoonist. He bears secondary responsibility. Standard newspapers, you can disagree with Governor Anne Waiguru without reducing women to sex objects. FIDA should take up this as an impact litigation case. This madharau against women leaders must stop!!!!”
