Members of Parliament are pushing for increased salaries and allowances for those who will be elected in the August 9th election.
This has emerged after an informal session of Parliament, Speaker’s Kamukunji held Wednesday mid morning at the National Assembly chambers.
According to Speaker Justin Muturi, several MPs had made requests for the all Members informal meeting which was generally intended to provide Members with an opportunity for briefing and deliberations on matters relating to their welfare.
The MPs, in new proposals to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) want their salaries increased to over 1m and their allowances for attending committee sessions enhanced.
In addition they want to retaining their current allowances for attending sessions in the chamber of the National Assembly.
The lawmakers want their salaries to be at par with that of a Court of Appeal judge who earns a maximum of Ksh 1,156,108.
At the same time their house allowance increased to Ksh 400,000 and Ksh 7500 for sitting allowances.
