Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has made it abundantly clear to those planning to replace President Uhuru Kenyatta as the de facto leader of Mt Kenya region that their scheme will not succeed.

The Senate chief whip maintained Uhuru was still the political kingpin of the region and any other splinter group hatching a plot to dethrone him of the status would be neutralised.

Speaking shortly after a high-powered delegation meeting of prominent leaders from Mt Kenya region led by Speaker Justin Muturi was held at Panafric Hotel in Nairobi, Irungu, in an apt Kikuyu saying, hinted Uhuru would not be replaced by anyone while he was still in power.

“No meeting in any hotel or stadia can plot successfully to replace Our KINGPIN in Mt. Kenya. “Mundu ndagayagwo e muoyo! “A man’s property cannot be inherited while he is still alive) he said in a tweet that has since been deleted.

The leaders met for lunch at a city hotel to congratulate Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya for his appointment as the new House Majority Leader following the axing of Aden Duale.

Among the top leaders who were present include governors Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) Mithomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi), Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia) Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Peter Kenneth (former Gatanga MP), Senator Charles Kibiru (Kirinyaga) and Speaker Muturi.

“We are here to appreciate President Uhuru Kenyatta for the appointment of Kimunya and that’s why we come to congratulate him.

You also know there are development issues in Mt Kenya to be discussed, the BBI is coming and even 2022 politics we must prepare as a region,” said Kiraitu.

The meeting was seen by some observers as an elaborate plan by Uhuru allies to seal off and cut to size the political influence of Deputy President William Ruto who has been making inroads in the region in a bid to popularise his presidential ambitions in 2022.

In the past few weeks, the president has been unleashing a political clampdown on allies of Ruto who were perceived as errant members.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Garissa Township MP Aden Duale were ousted and Senate and National Assembly majority leaders respectively.

Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika and Mumias East MP Ben Washiali were also dewhipped as chief whips in their respective Houses.

A host of other lawmakers allied to Ruto were kicked out of various committees in both Houses in a move aimed at realigning the leadership of parliament to the president’s course.
