Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir will run for the Mombasa Governor seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
This is after businessman Suleiman Shahbal stepped down for him.
Speaking after the decision, Shabal said he took the decision to safeguard the party’s interests in the region and ensure that ODM secures the seat.
“It is a good move now that the ODM has a candidate who will contest for Mombasa gubernatorial seat in August. This is a clear indication that the party is committed to ensuring that they win this seat” said Shabal.
Abdulswamad lauded Shahbal’s move saying they would work together to ensure the success of the Coastal county.
“I want to thank my ODM party leaders and my brother Suleiman for agreeing to work together. He has been a worthy competitor and we have agreed that we will work together so that we accomplish our vision,” he said.
This now means that the Mvita Mp will battle it out with UDA candidate Hassan Omar who was also awarded a UDA ticket to the contest for the seat.
Mohamed Faki will contest for the Senate seat again on an ODM ticket.
