Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has officially launched his party, The Service Party, ahead of 2022 General Election.

Kiunjuri began the process of forming a new political outfit in January 2020, just days after being kicked out of the cabinet by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, June, Kiunjuri said he has been consultation with many political players across the country regarding formation of the new party.

“I’ would like to introduce the entry of The Service Party of Kenya (TSP) into Kenya’s Politics… We have made the commitment to bring forth a platform that will be unequivocal about service delivery to our people as our name suggests,” he said.

Kiunjuri is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and speculation have started surfacing that the new party could be linked to the DP.

Before being sacked, Kiunjuri used to accompany the second in command in most of his tours in Central Kenya and was seen as the DP’s point man in the voter-rich region.

His relegation from the cabinet was greatly attributed to his political ties with Ruto and were rumoured to be working on a possible 2022 lineup.

Immediately he was fired, Kiunjuri’s met a group of youth from Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties to chart the way forward.

No journalist was allowed in to attend the closed-door meeting that was held at the Queen’s Garden.

Reports confirmed the meeting was held just after the party received a provisional certificate.
