A birthday party that was meant to celebrate Stephen Letoo’s son’s birthday as he turned a year older has turned out to be the centre of contact where a number of attendees contracted COVID-19.

A source intimate to the family said a number of people including Letoo’s colleagues from Royal Media services and friends have tested positive of the virus while others await their results.

According to the source who spoke to TUKO.co.ke, a lady who had exhibited symptoms of the disease was among the attendees at Letoo’s house.

She was the first to undergo a test on Tuesday, July 14 and received her results the following day indicating she had tested positive for the virus.

This prompted the reporter to undertake a test at Nairobi Hospital on Wednesday, July 15, and just like the lady, he tested positive for the virus.

The source said the third person from the party to test positive for the virus was Letoo’s male friend who developed fever, sore throat and fatigue on July 15, 2020, and decided to get tested.

The male friend undertook the test at Mbagathi Hospital and his results came back the following day indicating he had indeed contracted the virus.

According to the source, although a number of attendees are yet to undertake the test while others await their results, he was concerned that some of them had already travelled outside the city.

“There are those who have left Nairobi, one is in Kilgoris and the other is on Narok. It is worrying that they are mingling with other people although they have been asked to be cautious,” said the source.

The source who also revealed those who attended the birthday party had breached a number of guidelines issued by the government to stop the spread of COVID-19.

“They were about 20 in attendance instead of the government instruted 15 members and there were those who were walking in and out of the party,” said the source.

According to the source, Letoo’s male friend was apologetic for going against the guidelines further noting the party went on late into the early morning hours of Sunday, July 12, when some of them left.

“He is now calling on those who attended the party to ensure they get tested and isolate themselves to avoid infecting others,” said the source.

Letoo is said to be self-isolating at his home, as well as the others who have received their test result already.
