New Covid-19 Cases Rise to 304,350 as 2,216 More Test Positive

Kenya on Wednesday, 5th January recorded 2,216 new Covid-19 cases from 8,669 samples tested in the last 24 hours. This has raised the national tally to 304,350.

There have so far been 3,065,623 cumulative tests. The Covid-19 positivity rate stands at 25.6 per cent.

Of the new cases, 1,984 are Kenyans, while 232 are foreigners with 1,124 males and 1,092 females. The youngest is a two-month-old baby and the oldest is 105 years.

Some 775 patients have recovered from the disease, 578 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 197 are from health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 259,308.

Unfortunately, three patients have succumbed to the disease pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,404.

There are 1,226 patients currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 25,969 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

At the same time, 51 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 27 of whom are on ventilatory support, 18 on supplemental oxygen and six patients are under observation.

Another 328 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 292 of them are in the general wards. 36 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 4th January 2022, a total of 10,310,606 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 5,942,632 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,321,150.

Another 22,885 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 23,939 are booster doses. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56.1 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 15.9 per cent.
