The government has made a passionate appeal to Kenyans to stay at home during this Easter weekend.
Going by how much Kenyans love to have a good time during holidays, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe says this Easter holiday will be a time to reflect and not hosting parties or visiting as has been the norm to keep coronavirus at bay.
“This being an Easter weekend, I want to make a special plea to all Kenyans to strictly stay at home and to continue observing all the other measures we have put in place. Do not host parties, and make the usual Easter visits. Stay at home! I wish you a reflective and blessed Easter weekend” he said.
The CS made the plea even as the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases went by five bring the total number of confirmed cases to 184 while one more person died from the disease. 12 people have so far recovered and discharged.

The ages of the 184 confirmed cases range between three and 77 years while the majority are male at 107 and 77 females.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has changed people’s lives and this Easter weekend will be marked without the usual pomp and colour after the suspended church and other social gatherings as it moved to tame further spread of coronavirus.
Traditions observed during Easter will also not take place. The Catholic Church has banned the Way of the Cross on Good Friday, a religious tradition depicting the sufferings and consequent crucifixion of Jesus Christ to adhere to social distancing measures and slow the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).
The CS at the same time hailed Kenyans efforts in observing the precautionary measures by the government.
“We must be vigilant to sustain the measures until victory is obtained and the curve flattened. We must jealously guard the gains we are making. This is not a time to be complacent”, said the CS.
Masks
Kagwe pointed out the quality and level of exposure of face masks being sold in the streets. “Besides ascertaining their quality with the Ministry of health, we urge you to take necessary precaution to maintain their level of hygiene”
Wash your hands before you put on your mask. Discard it properly after 12 hours
The ministry of health says it has so far closed two quarantine facilities that had recorded negative results with the exercise set to continue.
Health Acting Director Dr.Patrick Amoth says Kenya is in talks with Japan to procure a trial vaccine to combat the deadly disease.
Kenyans have also been advised against wearing gloves because they are not effective and provide a false sense of security.
“Thoroughly washing of hands for at least 20 seconds remains the best defense against COVID-19” says Amoth.
