A fresh war has erupted pitting Nairobi governor Mike Sonko against Interior principal secretary Karanja Kibicho over a militia group going by the name Sonko Defence Force.
Sonko claims the militia does not exist, pointing fingers at Kibicho for allegedly trying to paint him in negative light.
Three MCAs who are key allies of the governor were summoned by the police over their alleged involvement with the militia group.
A letter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the divisional criminal investigation officer Central Police Station Samuel Kobina requested them to help the intelligence unit by summoning the three MCAs.
The three MCAs are Ruth Ndumi, a Jubilee party nominated MCA, Patricia Mutheu of Mlango Kubwa and Anthony Karanja of Waithaka ward.

Sonko and Kibicho

The letter stated: “This office is conducting an investigation into the alleged existence of a militia by the name of SonkoDefence Force.
“To this end, this office would like to request your good offices assistance in summoning the undermentioned honourable members so that they may shed light on what they know about the alleged militia.”
In February this year, Sonko accused Kibicho and others of “holding night meetings” to plot to scuttle William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid, accusations that were denied by the PS.
In August 2018, Sonko ran the affairs of the city county from his Mua Hills home in Machakos county, claiming that the PS had threatened his life.
Sonko has been claiming that cartels enjoying the protection of Kibicho have declared total war against him.
He has accused the PS and former presidential adviser Nancy Gitau of setting aside millions of shillings to fight him at City Hall.
He avers that Kibicho and Nancy were behind the controversial Nairobi metropolitan authority Bill 2017 which was blocked by MPs.
He says the bill was part of a well-orchestrated game plan to have Nairobi city county under the management of a state body under the control of cartels.
Sonko claims his troubles escalated when he refused to heed to calls by cartels at Harambee House to appoint a deputy governor of their choice following the resignation of Polycarp Igathe.
Kibicho is also reported to have ordered police to remove the flags on Sonko’s vehicle
