Machakos Governor Aspirant Nzioka Waita has eulogised former President Mwai Kibaki as a Statesman and distinguished economist.
The former State House Chief of Staff hailed Kibaki for providing an enabling environment for the adoption of technology that saw Kenya achieve almost 99% mobile coverage.
“In my mind Kibaki leaves an indelible mark as a steadfast and visionary national leader who provided much-needed support for the formulation of an enabling environment to guide the growth of the local mobile telephony market,” he said in his condolence message
“Through the National Economic and Social Council NESC, Kibaki provided a foundation for the private sector engagement that we currently enjoy through the latter day President’s Delivery Unit,” the former added
The news of Kibaki’s demise was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday at State House Nairobi.
President Kenyatta declared a period of national mourning from Friday until sunset on the day of his interment.
The former President will be accorded a state funeral with full military honours and protocols being rendered and observed.
In addition, the Flag of the Republic of Kenya shall be flown at half-mast.
Kibaki died at the age of 90 years.
