ODM Chair Mbadi Bows Out of Homa Bay Gubernatorial Race

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party National Chairman and National Assembly minority leader Hon John Mbadi has dropped out of Homa Bay County gubernatorial race.

In a statement issued on Monday, 28th March Mbadi stated that he will focus on Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign.

“I have today withdrawn my bid from the Homa Bay County gubernatorial race. I will therefore henceforth place more effort in the Azimio presidential bid and the nationwide bid to have ODM secure as many seats as possible,” Mbadi said.

Mbadi disclosed that the decision he made was out of his unquestionable commitment to the party, the quest for national growth and stability and the support for his party leader.

“Well, I must say this has definitely been one of the most difficult decisions that I have to make in the recent past. What has however made it doable is my unquestioned commitment to the ODM national agenda, quest for national growth and stability and course my unwavering support to the Rt Hon Raila Odinga’s presidential bid,” he said.

Further, Mbadi thanked his supporters for their continuous support to him.

“I, therefore, thank all my supporters and even those who are yet to support my bid this far we’ve talked. Your relentless and selfless energy towards our real change campaign was just incomparable,” added Mbadi.

Mbadi was set to race it down with Homa Bay County Women Representative Gladys Wanga for the party’s ticket.

Other aspirants eying for the seat include the former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, former Kasipul Member of Parliament Oyugi Magwanga, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) secretary-general Akello Misori, Homa Bay Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata and businessman Sam Wakiaga.
