Official 2022 academic calendar for primary and secondary schools revealed.

The 2022 academic calendar year is set to begin towards the end of April for all primary and secondary schools. The 2021 academic year recently came to an end barely a month ago after its derailment by the global COVID-19 pandemic. KCPE graduates are expected to join high schools by the end of next month while the Cabinet Secretary for Education, George Magoha is expected to release KCSE results for the form 4 leavers later this month. However, the KCSE results 2022 release date is yet to be confirmed.

The Ministry of Education is committed to ensuring that students from all backgrounds attain quality and affordable education across the country.  The 2022 academic calendar is the shortest academic calendar ever in the 8-4-4 curriculum system since its inception in the year 1985. The calendar is expected to run flawlessly for 8 months to restore the altered Kenyan education system on track. This means shorter holidays and midterm breaks for pupils and students.

Term 1 is set to begin on 25^th April 2022 and will go on for 10 weeks and will end on 1^st July 2022. There will be a three-day midterm running from 26^th May to 29^th May. The first term holiday will begin on 2^nd July 2022 and will go for only 1 week after which students are expected to report back to schools for resumption of schools on 10^th July 2022. KCPE graduates looking forward to joining form 1 are expected to report to high schools from 3^rd May 2022.

Term 2 will start on 11^th July 2022 and will go for 10 weeks. This means that schools close their second term on 16^th September 2022. The half-term break will start from 11^th August to 14^th August, a period of three days only. As from 17^th September, students proceed for a 1 week holiday which ends on 25^th September.

Term 3 will be expected to start on 26^th September 2022 and end on 25^th November 2022, a shorter 9 weeks period compared to the other terms. The week deficit in the third term is owed to schools not being allowed to have any half-term breaks for the third term.

KCPE examinations for the year 2022 will commence on 28^th November 2022 and will end on 1^st of December 2022.

KCSE examinations will begin on 1^st December 2022 and will end on 23^rd December 2022.
