Speaking to journalists outside Baringo County Assembly premises in Kabarnet town Saturday, Silale Ward Member of County Assembly, Nelson Lotela expressed his fears that the schools may not reopen in the area.

“I am afraid that schools may not resume since residents have fled their homes and there is lack of food in the area. I call on the government to open up roadblocks so as to allow food to reach the area”, Lotela said

Lotela also expressed concern that the ongoing attacks have fueled suffering among residents with majority of those affected being women, the elderly and young children.

“The vulnerable and poor in my area are suffering. The children and elderly are becoming emaciated due to lack of food, there is a serious danger lurking,” he said.

The MCA noted that school going children will be taking a risk going to schools since they have to be escorted by security officers’ failure to which they might be killed.

“The government should continue with operation but despite deploying heavy security contingent, the bandits are still going on with their mission and thereby making the area volatile, life is unbearable for the residents,” Lotela said
