The move by Kirinyaga County Assembly Members (MCAs) to impeach the Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru could be short-lived as the impeachment battle proceeds to the Senate where the lawmaker is likely to be saved.

The Kirinyaga Boss who is President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s close aide was dealt a major political blow after the County Assembly Members unanimously impeached her in a dramatic sitting that lasted for four hours.

The MCAs are claimed to have ignored a court order that earlier stopped the impeachment proceedings with County Assembly Speaker Antony Waweru ruling out the court order stating courts could not bar the assembly which is an independent entity from carrying out its work .

The defiance of the court order halting Waiguru’s impeachment could haunt the County Assembly Members who actively participated in the ouster motion in the Senate dominated by Senators allied to the president and his handshake partner.

“If an order was issued stopping the process and the order was served, the assembly acted in contempt of court,” Senate Minority Whip Mutula Kilonzo Junior stated.

Makueni Senator further stated that “We will await the proceedings to see how the assembly navigated the court order.”
