There is a countrywide black-out  following collapsed towers on Kiambere – Embakasi high voltage transmission power line.

In a statement Kenya power says engineers are working to restore electricity supply as repairs are being undertaken on the towers that came down at 10:45 am Tuesday morning.

“We have lost power supply due to collapsed towers on the Kiambere – Embakasi high voltage transmission power line at 10.45 am this morning,” read the statement.

Adding that: “Our engineers are working to restore electricity supply as the repairs are being undertaken.”

An update  on the restoration progress will be issued in due course.

Meanwhile, Kenya Power has implemented the directive issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta during the marking of Jamhuri Day on December 12, 2021 on reduction of cost of power.

President Kenyatta issued a directive to the energy ministry to ensure the cost of power is reduced by 30% by the end of March next year.

“The reduction of the cost of electricity will be implemented in two tranches of 15% each; with the first 15%, which will be achieved through initial actions focusing on system and commercial losses being reflected in the December bills, and a further 15% reduction in the first quarter of 2022,” said the President.

Last month, the firm informed its customers that the first 15% reduction in the cost of power will be implemented on power consumption in the month of December 2021.

The power distributor said in a statement it had since effected with pre-paid consumers set to see the changes with immediate effect upon purchase of the units.

The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Monday welcomed the 15% reduction in power tariffs in the country, adding that Manufacturers shall enjoy a cost reduction of between 2.67 – 3.64 shillings per unit of electricity, depending on their respective tariff and consumption levels.
