Panic After 17 Covid-19 Cases Discovered at the Prestigious St Andrew’s School, Turi

Teachers, workers, and pupils at the prestigious St Andrew’s School, Turi are living in fear after 17 people tested positive for Covid-19 at the institution.

The cases at the high-status international school located in Molo, Nakuru County were discovered after 24 samples were collected from the facility, according to the Nakuru County Health Department.

Reports indicate the 17 include eight pupils and nine tutors who are part of a group that remained at the institution since the pandemic broke out in Kenya in March. The school admits both local and international pupils.

A source told Daily Nation that the 17 are suspected to have been infected with the virus after interacting with a group of visitors that toured the school recently in a private chopper.

It is reported that the 17 and others who remained at the school were making plans to travel back to their countries after Kenya lifted the ban on international flights effective August 1st.

Nakuru County health department said the requirement that travelers obtain certificates showing they are coronavirus-free helped reveal the cases at St Andrew’s.

“A total of 24 samples were picked from the institution and taken for testing where 17 were found positive. All the patients have been isolated in the school as we begin contact tracing,” said Dr. Gichuki Kariuki, the county health executive.

“The patients are asymptomatic and they range from the age of one to 46,” he added.
