Devolution PS Charles Sunkuli has joined the swelling ranks of big shots bidding to succeed Narok governor Samuel Tunai.
The PS has adopted a grassroots approach, already hitting the ground running, either by presiding over or attending fundraisers, church functions and communal events across the county virtually every weekend.
Sunkuli’s entry in the race now complicates matters for presumed frontrunners, Interior chief administrative secretary Patrick Ntutu and

Sunkuli

Narok South MP Korei ole Lemeini, both who have been on the campaign trail trying to solidify their respective support bases.
Predicted to be one of the most hotly contested political duels where clannism is expected to play a central role, with the one contestant who manages to win over the neutrals – the Kisii, Kipsigis vote – are well placed to run away with the top job.
One area of interest is the minority factor where populous clans have tended to produce many candidates, leaving the so-called small clans at a vintage position to reap from the spoils.
Such is the scenario that may place Sunkuli, from the minority Moitanik clan of Trans Mara in prime position to consolidate support from other small clans and communities. His handlers reveal they will be pulling all stops to win over hearts in Tunai’s bastion, the Siria clan.
Both Ntutu and Lemeini hail from the populous Purko clan, a double-edged sword that may see them split the vote to Sunkuli’s advantage. In the August 2018 polls, Ntutu came second.
