Anti-Terror police in Tinderet, Nandi County have launched investigations after police arrested a woman suspected to have links with the Al shabaab terror group.
Police say the 22-year-old woman was arrested after her neighbors a tipped officers at Soghor police station of a suspicious activity.
A tweet by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, December 1, indicated that the woman confessed to have been in Somalia for two years after allegedly being kidnapped by the terror group.
“Police officers received a tip-off from patriotic locals, about a 22-year-old woman who was cohabiting with a man in Kamalambu village but appeared suspicious,” the DCI tweeted.
According to the detectives, the suspected woman only confessed to have been in Somalia in 2019 after interrogation.
“She confessed to have been trained on weapon handling skills, hostage taking and use of explosives among other skills,” the investigators said.
DCI reports that the woman recently attended Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise at different centers.
The suspect is in custody as investigations are underway.
