Police dramatically arrest wanted drug lord

Police recovered a cache of drugs during a daring raid in which a suspected drug lord was arrested after a dramatic chase.

The suspect who is also believed to be behind a series of robberies was arrested alongside two others after walking into a police trap while waiting to receive supplies of illegal drugs in Nyeri.

Nyeri County Commander Adiel Nyange confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect attempted to flee by jumping into a nearby dam but was

“When he saw us, he dived into the dam living behind the drugs he was possessing. But the officers were able to arrest him,” Nyange said.

The suspect who is a Masters student at Jomo Kenyatta University was found in possession of 40 kilograms of marijuana, two stolen motorcycles and illicit brew.

A search conducted at his hideout in in Asian Quarters saw police recover more drugs and proceeds of drug trade worth more than Ksh 55,000.

Reports indicate that he is behind a spate of daring robberies in the area.

He is said to have been operating from Kamakwa estate, Asian Quarters and within Karia dam and has been in this illegal business since the closure of the university following the directive from the government to contain the spread of Corona virus.

The student is said to have been supplying drugs within Nyeri town as well as to some of his colleAgues at the campus and he has benefited from the illegal proceeds.

The Nyeri Police County Commander noted that the family of the suspected drug dealer was not aware of his criminal activities, rather they knew him as a Master degree student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
