A police officer accused of raping a Sudanese refugee at Kakuma refugee camp will be detained for a further 14 days to complete investigations.

PC Kennedy Kamande was produced before a Nairobi court after he was arrested in Kandara, Murang’a County on 5th August where he had gone into hiding before taking plea at Lodwar law courts.

Kamande was produced before the Chief Magistrates court in Lodwar but disappeared before taking plea. Subsequently, a warrant of arrest was issued against him.

Investigating officer Joseph Kiragu told the court that the police need seven days two allow him to prepare and present Kamande in court in Lodwar.

“Without prejudicing the fate of the respondent, we pray that this honourable court grants 7 days to detain the respondent at capitol hill police station as we complete our logistics to present him  before court in Lodwar” said Kiragu,” added the investigator.
