Tanzania President Suluhu Declares Two Days of Mourning in Honour of Mwai Kibaki

Tanzania president Samia Suluhu has declared two days of national mourning for the late former President of the Republic of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki.

In a statement, President Suluhu said that the mourning will begin on Friday, 29th April to Saturday, 30th April.

During the period, the Tanzanian flag will fly at half-mast across the entire territory of Tanzania and all the country’s diplomatic missions abroad.

On Friday, 22nd April President Suluhu conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the people of Kenya and the family of Mwai Kibaki.

She said that Africa has lost one of its finest sons and a dedicated public servant.

“I’m deeply saddened by the passing on of the third President of Kenya, H.E Mwai Kibaki. Africa has lost one of its finest sons and a dedicated public servant. My condolences to H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta, the bereaved family and all Kenyans,” tweeted Suluhu.

President Samia will however not attend Kibaki’s funeral but will be represented by her Deputy Philip Mpango.

President Kibaki who died on Thursday 21st April at the age of 90 will be laid to rest on Saturday, 30th April at his home in Othaya, Nyeri County.

Security has been beefed up in the area and along the road from Nairobi to ensure a smooth ceremony for Kenya’s third president. Some 15,000 people will be allowed to attend the burial ceremony.
