Multiple security agencies are in hot pursuit in collective efforts to capture two female jailbreakers who have escaped from Kisumu Maximum Prison in Kodiaga.

The two were detained in a women’s facility at the maximum-security prison, awaiting to answer murder charges at Kisumu Law Courts.

Close sources from the prison disclosed that the duo was reported missing at around 4 pm on Sunday when warders on duty were conducting headcount.

“The two suspects were last accounted for at around 1 pm, but about three hours later, they were nowhere to be seen,” one of them said.

According to one of the warders, they suspect that the two might have ‘chameleoned’ as ordinary persons visiting the facility before walking out through the main gate.

Confirming the incident, Nyanza Regional Commissioner Magu Mutindika said that the escapees were still at large, but efforts to recapture them were ongoing.

“It is true. Two female suspects escaped from Kisumu Maximum Prison. We have launched a manhunt for them, and we will recapture them,” he said.

Further, he said that the security teams were on high alert and had upscaled security after the daring escape of the duo from a heavily guarded facility.

This comes months after three terror convicts, Joseph Odhiambo, Musharaf Abdalla, and Mohammed Abikar, escaped from Kamiti Maximum Prison with the aid of warders.

However, their prison break hit a snag after their re-arresting in Kitui. They were then moved to Nairobi, where freshly charged, pleaded guilty, and handed an additional 15-month jail term.
