Former premier Raila Odinga has revealed his ideal candidate for the Nairobi Governorship ahead of the 2022 polls slated for August.

Speaking during his campaigns at Kawangware, Dagoretti North, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader stated that Westlands Member of Parliament (MP), Tim Wanyonyi was his preferred candidate and even introduced him as the succeeding Governor of Kenya’s capital.

“I am here with a big team. Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, former Dagoreti South MP Dennis Waweru, and former Speaker Beatrice Elachi. I am also here with the incoming Governor of Nairobi, Tim Wanyonyi,” Raila said.

Wanyonyi was also supported by ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, who has declared his interest in the Nairobi Senatorial race to replace Johnson Sakaja, who has confirmed his presence in the city’s gubernatorial race.

Addressing the attendees of the rally, Wanyonyi urged Nairobians to vote for Raila to see change and their economic empowerment. The lawmaker said that Raila will be declared winner in the morning hours since there is no closest rival, and is the ‘only horse’, according to him.

Raila’s disclosure of his preferred candidate is a major blow to other aspirants like Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) president Richard Ngatia, who said that he eyes the same seat as Wanyonyi and would use Azimio la Umoja as his political carriage.

Business mogul Ann Kagure Kariuki also confirmed that she will be vying for the Governor’s seat and even declared her support for Raila Odinga as the
archetypal candidate to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta as the fifth President.

“All Kenyans, we are saying, Baba is our incoming President. And Nairobi is safer in Agnes Kagure’s hands, the incoming governor. I will soon launch my gubernatorial bid in Nairobi,” she stated earlier in Nyeri.
