ODM leader Raila Odinga has cleared the air about his health following days of speculations.

His retreat after the Azimio la Umoja national convention triggered speculations about faring in terms of health.

A popular political blogger alluded that the former Prime Minister would be traveling abroad for medical reasons.

However, the opposition chief maintained that he is in good shape.

He revealed that he flew to Mombasa on Tuesday for a three-day vacation to refresh his mind and body after exhaustive campaigns around the country to pitch his fifth presidential bid.

The AU High Commissioner of Roads and Infrastructure disclosed that his doctor advised him to take a break from politics.

“I’m in Mombasa to rest for three days. I’m not doing any meetings. I was advised to rest after the Kasarani event. After the three days, I will talk to different people and groups,” he said.

He assured his supporters that he will be back in action in a little while.

Azimio la Umoja

During the Kasarani meeting, he declared his intentions to run for President and launched the Azimio la Umoja Movement.

He welcomed all like-minded parties and leaders to band together under the Azimio la Umoja Movement for a broader coalition.

The ex-Premier did not announce political leaders and outfits that were willing to work with him.

However, several governors and cabinet secretaries have expressed that they will close ranks with Raila.

Kilifi Governor Amoson Kingi said his Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) will rally behind the former Prime Minister in next year’s State House race.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, who unveiled his Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) on Tuesday this week, also threw his weight behind the opposition boss.

Others who have vowed to campaign for Raila include Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, his Agriculture colleague Peter Munya and governors Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), and Laikipia’s Ndiritu Mureithi.
