Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dropped his presidential bid in favour of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The former Vice-President also formally joined the Azimio la Umoja Movement.

This was revealed during Azimio National Delegates Convention (NDC) at the Kenyatta International Conference in Nairobi.

During the event, the former Prime Minister was unanimously endorsed as the coalition’s presidential flag bearer.

It was not immediately clear which role Kalonzo will play in Azimio.

Multiple sources indicate that he demanded to deputise Raila for the third time in a row as the condition for joining Azimio.

President Uhuru Kenyatta commended the former Vice-President for dropping his State House quest.

“Kalonzo is very much capable of leading the country but because of his love for the country, he has dropped his ambition. He deserves all the praise; he is a hero. We thank him,” he said.

For his part, Raila revealed that it was not an easy task brokering a truce with Kalonzo.

“We’ve had differences with Kalonzo but today we shook hands and closed ranks. I thank him,” Raila said.
