ODM party leader Raila Odinga has committed himself to inflect the cost of electricity immediately he is elected as the fifth President after the 2022 General Elections set for August.

Weighing in on the rise of food prices after Kenyans blamed the state for the hell they are going through to cater for meals, Raila stated that the root cause of the predicament is the high cost of electricity which has led to a subsequent rise in the production cost.

He was speaking at Lunga Lunga, where he had taken his campaign trail, in a bid to woo the coastal residents to support his quest for Presidency.

He noted that Kwale residents were in an advantaged position since they are close to an ocean that has resources to foster their economy. However, he said that the resources are under-exploited, but his government will build a modern fish processing facility and boats to ensure the residents benefit from the blue economy.

“I will ensure Shimoni is developed as a major fishing port in East Africa by putting up cold storage house where fishermen will be storing the catch from the Ocean before export.” He said.

“We have potential wealth in the Indian Ocean, and that is why I will ensure Shimoni port is developed to international standards so that the locals can utilize it to create wealth and jobs,” he added.

Additionally, he stated that he will solve water and land problems that have vexed the locals for years on end.

“Addressing water and land problems will be among my first priorities because they have haunted the area’s communities for years.”

He urged Kenyans to assess his scorecard after 100 days in office, thrashing claims that he is a state project modeled by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“I am people’s project. Baba cannot be somebody’s project. I want you to start counting after August 9 so that you judge me after 100 days,” he said.

Raila had tagged along with Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and aspirants aligned with Azimio la Umoja seeking various political seats in the oncoming polls.
