The Court has sentenced Teresiah Wanjiku Ndungi, an employee of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation to a 4 yrs sentence for forging an academic certificate.
Wanjiku who was convicted of the offence can however be set free if she pays a Ksh 300,000 fine.
According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Wanjiku had forged a Diploma in Archives & Records Management purporting to have attained it from the Kenya Institute of Management and subsequently used it to get employment.
Following investigations by EACC, Wanjiku was charged with the offences of forgery, uttering a false document, deceiving a public entity and fraudulent acquisition of Kshs 479,021 being the cumulative sum paid as salary based on fake academic qualifications.
EACC says he case illustrates the increasing cases of forgery of academic certificates by persons seeking appointment or election to public office.
The Commission has committed to work with relevant agencies in addressing the menace.
