Mombasa Island Deputy County Commissioner Ronald Muiwawi, has assured Old Town residents of security following the recent attack by an armed juvenile criminal gang in the area last week.

Speaking during a Security Baraza in the area Ronald said it is possible to restore back the peace the locals had enjoyed for a long time before the recent attack.

He assured residents that security had been intensified in the area with police patrols at night and even during the day.

The deputy County boss said the area will regain calm after the police arrested some of the suspected militia in the area.

He appealed to the members of public including family members to report suspected criminals to the relevant authorities once spotted so as to make Old Town safe to attract tourists and other investors to the area.

The deputy administrator blamed the Juvenile gangs from Likoni and Kisauni whom he said have been crossing to the Mombasa Island to rob and terrorize residents and traders.

“We have intensified operations within the county to restore security, during the operation two criminal gangs who were terrorizing resident were killed in their Maboxini hide out,”he said.

Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir observed that Old Town had not reported any criminal incident for a long time and the recent attack had painted a negative image of the area.

The legislator said small criminal elements in the area are tarnishing their name, thus hampering development activities, meant to benefit people in the area.

He also praised the government’s effort in enhancing security in the area and urged the residents to denounce criminal organizations and work together with police for the sake of their own safety.

He called for continued cooperation with members of the public in efforts to contain any form of insecurity so that businesses can thrive and people live without fear.

Faris Sagaar, a resident of Old Town said the CCTV security system installed by area MP has yielded fruits in addressing security matters where the  recent criminal attack by the juvenile gang were captured, making it easy to trace them from their hideout.
