Residents in Bungoma town are demanding the transfer of area deputy OCS Geoffrey Mongere over alleged corruption and harassment.
Speaking to Weekly Citizen in Bungoma town, they accused the officer of harassing boda boda operators after a crackdown that saw over 100 motor cycles nabbed at stages and garage.
They termed the security chief a tyrant who does not follow the right procedure when arresting law breakers and appealed to Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to transfer the deputy OCS.
“Why is it that those arrested are never taken to the court? This means the police are looking for bribes in the guise of enforcing the law,” they noted.

An Mpesa agent alleged the deputy OCS extorts money from them. The amount is as little as Sh2, 000 each night, he said. Those who fail to comply, end up in Kangaroo courts where they are charged with offences they have not committed.
The said rogue officer allegedly roughed up a pregnant woman who declined to part with Sh15,000 bribe and sources say the woman ended up miscarrying.
It is also claimed that the officer also demanded Sh100,000 from a senior Bungoma county government official to allow him bring in fake liquor from neighbouring country. The county official runs a chain of wines and spirits shops in the county.
It is further claimed that Bungoma South deputy OCS has been aiding businesspeople to import contraband sugar and alcohol from the neighbouring country by offering security to guard the cargo.
Traders said the situation is so dire that several traders in the industry have closed shop for fear of being harassed, arrested and fleeced of cash.
“We pride having the divisional police headquarters at our doorsteps, but we live in an insecure community. The police usually harass us on our way home. They only leave us after we part with our money which they usually demand from us, if not, we are taken to the cells. Is this the face of a decaying society where those meant to protect become perpetrators?” posed one aggrieved resident.
