Rigathi Gachagua: ‘Kikuyus Love Money That’s Why Ruto Easily Bought Them’

Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua is hitting the headlines again after another unguarded remark.

Speaking somewhere in Rift Valley, the Mathira MP is heard telling a gathering that he is a expert when it comes to making money.

He added that Dr Ruto was able to endear himself to the Mt Kenya region by spending a lot of money.

“I will show you how to make money (if we form the government). Money is very sweet and leaves one satisfied. Money flattens the Mountain and that’s why we the Mt Kenya people were able to join forces with your son (Ruto),” he said.

In just two weeks, Gachagua has made gaffes that give critics political fodder to attack him and the DP.

Last week alone, he trended twice over careless remarks.

On Monday, he suggested that big corporates like Safaricom and Kenya Airways should be controlled as a way of growing small enterprises.

Days later, he told a crowd in Baringo County that areas that will elect UDA MPs will be prioritised in military recruitment if Ruto becomes President.

He noted that as Deputy President, he will be ensuring youths in UDA zones are called up to join the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), but MPs will have to first pass through his office.

Earlier, he told the DP of the things he should consider if his presidential bid materialises if offering plates of food to residents of Nyeri County at the Sagana State Lodge.

Despite the criticism, the lawmaker maintains that no one will stop him from speaking his mind.
