Football Kenya Federation Transition Committee has called upon football stakeholders in the country to support yet to be validated FKF draft constitution which will be approved in a general assembly.
Committee chairman and retired judge Aaron Ringera who was speaking while meeting local stakeholders of the game on Monday to deliberate on issues geared towards growth and development of the sport in the country said the document being prepared will adress challenges facing Kenyan football.
“This will be the best document ever to be witnessed in Kenyan sports. It is player friendly, gender sensitive and meant to tackle problems affecting a player who is an integral part of the sport. The constitution will conform to the Fifa statutes and our own laws in Kenya. We have shared the draft of the constitution and come up with a document which can be validated and passed by the General Assembly of the FKF and we hope it would be ready by early next month,” said Ringera
Led by representatives of various FKF Premier League, Women Premier League and National Super League clubs among others, they were taken through various sessions including FKF Draft constitution,Digitisation and Commercialisation of the game.
FKF Transition legal committee chair Micheal Muchemi emphasised on a raft of proposals in the draft constitution key among others inclusivity and the composition of the NEC, which is the highest decision-making organ in the federation.
“Article 10 and 11 have interchanged to enable a proper transition on the subject of membership. Article 11 have further been amended by inserting the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association, Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association and Kenya Colleges and Universities Sports Association as members of the FKF who will have the obligations to convene the General Assembly (GA) at regular intervals as a general rule at least once a year on or before the 31st day of March in each year” noted Muchemi.

FKF and its members will own the league and will agree on issues like clubs’ sponsorship, broadcast rights, and advertisement, among others, in strict conformation with the laid down laws and regulations.
Clubs will be free to form the company which will be in charge of the topflight men’s and women’s leagues and second-tier men’s and women’s leagues.
NSL side Muhoroni Youth FC Chairman Moses Adagala lauded the transition committee saying the newly formed entity created by the government to oversee running of football operations in Kenya means well for the game.
“I have been in football for a long period of time and we have to be objective with our facts. Yes this interim team has had its shortcomings which is common when you’re taking over office but they have also done well to facilitate clubs in a small way, train coaches through one of their members Bobby Ogula besides footing remuneration of match officials to help in refereeing of our games” affirmed Adagala

Leagues and Competitions Chairman Ali Amour who moderated session of digitisation of the game in the country said football sector is big business, worth tens of billions of dollars worldwide, hence there’s need to work on enhancement of local digital space in a bid to generate revenue.

Ali Amour adressing the press
“Digital has impacted the football world and will continue to do so. Ticketing is very much a digital process. Merchandise sales online are a feature of the industry today and have been for some time. Social media intensifies the connection between fan and club and provides insights which clubs can learn from. Digital has driven down the cost of media creation to the point where most football clubs now find they are able to produce and distribute more content, and of a higher quality, than was possible only a short” said Amour
Committee chairman of Ad hoc committee Mwangi Muthee while speaking on commercialisation of football in Kenya said the sport is huge in Kenya and it should be made a business
“Ernest and Young are ready to partner with us to help our sport start attracting heavy business investors like ABSA,Macdonalds which will in turn get our game to another level.Future of Kenyan football lies in the development of talents at grassroots and we need a Director of Football to help put in place proper structures aimed at nurturing them” posed Muthee.

The delegates are expected to officially set a date for the General Assembly meeting where they will constitute a new National Executive Meeting (NEC and ratify and adopt the FKF Draft constitution which will then be send to world football governing body FIFA for approval.
