Due to Kenya’s ongoing fuel crisis, Rubis Kenya Managing Director and CEO Jean-Christian Bergeron was deported out of the country on charges of economic sabotage.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma suggested more fines against oil marketing businesses that were complicit in the country’s fuel shortfall after meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The government’s actions come a day after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced that oil marketing companies were selling petroleum intended for the Kenyan market outside the country.

Four oil marketing organizations are expected to face sanctions, including a reduction in the amount of capacity they import into the country.

The sanctions come as Kenyans continue to suffer as a result of their inability to find fuel.

EPRA will release its monthly prices on Thursday. Many Kenyans are expecting that this will put an end to the country’s fuel shortage.
