Deputy President William Ruto has called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to apologize to Kenyans following the Supreme Court ruling on Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
“The collapse of the BBI has marked the end to political conmanship in Kenya. They have spent billions of government resources on a project that is illegal and unconstitutional. They need to apologize to the people of Kenya,” he said.
Speaking during a campaign tour in Lamu County, DP Ruto tore apart his political rivals saying that God had answered the prayers of Kenyans by dismantling the BBI.
According to the Deputy President who has been at the forefront of criticizing the initiative, the proponents of the BBI wasted Kenyans’ time trying to popularize the ‘unpopular’ agenda and should thus come out and apologize to Kenyans.
“Leo mahakama ya Supreme Court Kenya imesema BBI ilikua ni ukora mtupu na utapeli mtupu. Hawa jamaa walitumia pesa ya serikali, wakatumia uwezo wa serikali na wakitumia njia ya kimambavu kujaribu kuhujumu katiba ya Kenya,” Ruto stated.
“We want to tell our handshake brothers and the BBI fraud they feasted on the people of Kenya, now that it is confirmed by the Supreme Court that the BBI and all the Shenanigans around it, were matters unconstitutional, illegal, null and void, the handshake brothers need to make an apology to the people of Kenya.”
He was accompanied by Party Leaders Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) and MPs Aden Duale (Garissa Township), Aisha Jumwa (Malindi), Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga) and Anwar Loitiptip (Lamu).
Others were Benjamin Tayari (Kinango), Kithure Kindiki (Tharaka Nithi), former Governors Issa Timamy (Lamu), Hussein Dado (Tana River) and Ahmed Ali Mukhtar (Wajir).
Meanwhile, Kenya Kwanza allies similarly took the stage to criticize their Azimio political rivals as they lauded the court ruling on the BBI case.
Mudavadi noted that Kenyans cannot continue to suffer because of some selfish and greedy individuals.
“Now that BBI is null and void, those responsible for it must be held to account for the resources that were put in that criminal exercise,” he said.
The ANC party leader observed that “we cannot have a government that is always experimenting on the people of Kenya”.
He noted that the BBI ruling is a lesson for criminal and unlawful trends witnessed in Kenya today.
On his part, Wetang’ula said independent institutions must be respected and refuse to be intimidated by government mandarins
“The President must appreciate that every misadventure has consequences. You (Uhuru) were misadvised, now you carry the shame,” he noted.
