After losing the chance to defend his Starehe seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, first-time MP Charles Kanyi alias Jaguar has expressed his disappointment.

The young politician, who is also a well-known musician, stated that the political party linked to Deputy President William Ruto had denied Kenyans the right to elect a leader of their choosing.

“Could this be the result of certificates that started making the rounds before nominations?” he wondered on social media.

After then, the Kigeugeu hitmaker hinted at running for re-election as an Independent.

“I’ll meet with the folks of Starehe to discuss the situation and make a decision. The people’s voice is important. #Hatubadilishi.”

After abandoning President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party, Jaguar hoped to become the UDA’s flagbearer.

“The moment has come to make judgments, and the welfare of the people must be addressed. Starehe is a diverse constituency with numerous Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and the bottom-up approach works well for them. As a result, I believe that working with the Deputy President in his party as he runs for President and tries to implement his programmes is the greatest option for my people of Starehe,” he wrote to President Kenyatta in a letter.

However, it looks that UDA has dropped the musician in favour of Simon Mbugua for the Starehe MP seat.

Simon Mbugua received a preliminary nomination certificate from the UDA on Thursday.

The move comes just a week after the United Democratic Party stated it will hold a new nomination process in the area due to violence.

Jaguar has been dumped for the second time.

When Jubilee offered Maina Kamanda the ticket in 2017, he was moved to tears.

It took President Kenyatta’s intervention to reclaim his ticket and run in the 2018 elections.

Jaguar is a musician best known for songs like Kigeugeu, in which he accuses politicians of lying.
