Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua and top government officials have been crisscrossing Kirinyaga County today, March 17.

This comes a day after Karua was nominated to be Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s running mate.

However, the former Gichugu MP faced opposition in some areas. Kirinyaga is Karua’s home county.

In some parts of the county, the stopovers were disrupted by hecklers who chanted pro-Deputy President William Ruto’s slogans. “Ruto! Ruto! Ruto!”

Regardless, this did not stop the Azimio team from marketing Raila to the people of Kirinyaga.

“We are now in safe hands. I want to assure you that everything is okay,” Karua said.

Others who accompanied her include Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.

Munya, who was also angling for the position of running mate in Azimio, endorsed Karua and promised to do everything to ensure Raila replaces President Uhuru Kenyatta in August.

The former Prime Minister revealed that he will retain Munya as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary in “his administration”.

Tomorrow, Munya will host Karua in Meru County.

Asked during an interview last evening how she will mobilise support for Raila, Karua it will be business unusual in the Mt Kenya region.

“We will hit the ground running and I can assure you we are going to get numbers to make our captain the President. Recently, I was in Kirinyaga with Raila and you saw the large number of people who came out to listen to our message. There were also a few paid hecklers and that tells you were are making inroads,” she said.
