Mumias East Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali has delivered a good news to the Deputy President William Ruto, promising that he will not stop supporting the DP despite being dethroned from the National Assembly Majority Whip’s position.

On Tuesday 2 June, Washiali and his Runyenje counterpart Cecily Mbarire were kicked out of the National Assembly lucrative positions during the Parliamentary Group Meeting held at Statehouse.

The lawmaker seems to have accepted the verdict stating that the Majority Whip position is not a matter of life and death and will not change his support for the DP.

“The Deputy President has been in my constituency more than five times. He stood by me even in times of grief. Why should I abandon him?” he posed.

Washiali’s sentiments came after the former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa criticized the DP for doing so little to protect his foot soldiers.

Echesa claimed that the second in command was a General who had abandoned his footsoldiers during an interview with local daily.

Washiali, however, countered Echesa stating he does not understand how government work adding that the position was not a matter of life and death and he is now focusing on bigger things in the future.

“I have my eyes on greater things and will devote much of my time serving Mumias East residents,” he added.
