In the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo who left Real Madrid for Juventus in 2018, a number of players stepped up the plate including Ramos who, despite being a defender, has scored some crucial goals for his side this season.
Ramos lifted the trophy at an empty Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium on Thursday evening and could barely hide his admiration or manager Zidane, who was somewhat of a gem for the club back in his playing days.
“Zidane has been key. He’s the captain of the ship and he led us right from the start of the season. He put a lot of faith in all of us players and we have always felt protected with Zizu,” Ramos told La Liga TV.
On the day, a Karim Benzema double was enough to see off the Yellow Submarine who also put up a spirited fight late in the game.
Ramos, who joined Real Madrid from Sevilla in 2005, also spoke on his future where he revealed intentions to complete his career with Los Blancos.
“I’ll stay here for many years, as the president wants. I’d like to end my career at Real Madrid, I don’t think it would be a problem. Zidane is the key, we believe in him and his work, he’s unique,” he went on.
Real Madrid manager Fiorentino Perez is also confident his main defender will end his career with the Spanish giants.
Zidane initially took charge of Real Madrid in 2016, guiding them to three consecutive Champions League titles before taking somewhat of a sabbatical.
After short stints with Julen Loptegui and Santiago Solari, the club once again called on the services of the Frenchman who took up the challenge once again in 2019.
