A court in Maua, Meru, has granted police permission to keep a county employee in custody for another ten days in connection with the violent murder of her partner.

Florence Kanario, a Meru Gender Office employee, is suspected of stabbing Maua court clerk Swaleh Kalema in the neck after a quarrel over a waitress, according to detectives.

Moments after they left a prominent hotel in Laare town, his body was discovered discarded on the side of a road in KK, Igembe Central.

Hassan Ali, the police chief of Igembe South, said the body of the deceased guy, who was from Kisauni, was discovered on the side of a road near a church.

His wallet, which contained cash and documents, as well as an expensive phone, appeared to be unharmed, enabling investigators to rule out robbery as a motive.

Kanario, 31, allegedly battled with Kalema after discovering him in a compromising position with a waiter at a famous entertainment venue in Laare, according to police.

The two, who were cohabiting, arrived at Kajuko hotel around 5 p.m. on Sunday and left together at 3 a.m., according to CCTV footage.

Kanario was seen rushing out of the hotel and heading to her car shortly before they left, accusing Kalema of having an affair with the waiter.

Kalema and the waiter walk out of the hotel twenty minutes later, and Kanario drives towards them. The man then gets into the car and drives away.

Police believe the pair got into a dispute because Kalema was killed before they arrived at Maua, where they lived.

Kanario is said to have discarded the body on the side of the road and returned to her family’s home without filing a police report.

Kanario’s two fingers were injured when she was apprehended, according to police. The cuts had been patched up, but she couldn’t explain how she had gotten them.
