Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati had a field day as ODM leader Raila Odinga took the Azimio la Umoja gospel in Kisii County.
The lawmaker was the star of the day as the residents appeared to resonate with the grounds.
Seasoned Kisii politicians like Governor James Ongwae, Senator Sam Ongeri, and Woman Rep Janet Ongera had devil’s own luck addressing rallies.
But every time the city parliamentarian was called to speak, the crowd would go berserk.
Arati, who is gunning for the Kisii gubernatorial seat, reiterated his unwavering support for the former Prime Minister.
However, he warned the ODM party against shortchanging him in the nominations.
“To baba Raila Odinga, we want your assurance that the ODM certificate for the gubernatorial seat has not been dished to anyone,” he said.
The Dagoretti North legislator trashed a recent opinion poll that claimed that his main ODM competitor, Ongeri, is leading against him, saying it was sponsored.
He also promised to revive avocado, banana, and coffee factories if elected to replace Ongwae, who has served his two maximum terms.
When Arati announced his quest for the seat, many people thought he was joking. He started his groundwork without much noise.
Ongwae, a close ally of Raila, has thrown his weight behind Ongeri. The governor has been locking Arati out of the Azimio meetings in Kisii.
A Kisii political analyst, Brian Nyaberi argues that Arati has edged out veteran politicians and anyone competing against him will have a lot of work to match him.
Nyaberi adds that Arati positioning himself to become the spokesperson of the Gusii community.
