Son of Siaya or Son of Busia? David Ochieng’s Politics of Convenience Exposed

In the theater of Kenyan politics, some acts entertain. Others are confused. Hon. David Ochieng is performing a drama of geography that has voters asking serious questions about leadership and accountability.

On one hand, the Ugenya MP loudly criticizes Siaya’s leadership, presenting himself as the alternative voice for a county he claims is underperforming. Yet whispers persist that his true ancestral roots lie across the border in Busia County.

This raises a simple question about political honesty. If your heart and heritage are in Busia, why pursue the top seat in Siaya? Politics is about belonging. You cannot straddle two counties and pick the one that suits your ambition.

If David Ochieng is truly a son of Busia, as the rumors suggest, his obsession with Siaya’s gubernatorial seat looks less like leadership and more like a political play for convenience.

Hon. David Ochieng as questions grow over his leadership and political identity in Siaya County.

Siaya deserves a leader with a clear identity. Leaning on his Busia connection while pursuing Siaya’s top job makes him appear like a traveler who wants to renovate a house he does not intend to live in.

Meanwhile, Ugenya has been his political laboratory. Residents there notice the MP’s efforts but also see that the focus is experimental rather than transformative.

Across the border in Siaya, students cry out for bursaries, roads remain poor, and residents wonder why leadership looks like Instagram posts and speeches instead of real development.

Governance is more than words. Leadership is more than appearances. If the grass truly is greener in Busia, perhaps he should take his Movement for Democracy and Growth there and prove his worth where his roots run deep.

Instead, Siaya residents are left asking: is he a son of the soil or just a political tourist chasing whichever seat offers the best view?

The question will not go away. Siaya is watching. Loudly. Leadership and accountability are what they want. And right now, David Ochieng is failing the test.
