Ross Barkley was the first to test Sheffield’s goalkeeper Dean Henderson in goal as early as the second minuted but his shot did not trouble the shot-stopper.
But the home side surprisingly took the lead 18th minute through McGoldrick after McBurnie’s shot took two big deflections and fell kindly into his path, as the Irishman slammed home the rebound to make in 1-0.
Sheffield scored their second goal from their second opportunity on target as McBurnie headed home a pin-point cross from Jack O’Connell to make it 2-0 in the 33rd minute.
Just before half-time, Reece James forced a fine stop from Henderson but there was no Chelsea player available for the rebound. Sheffield took a 2-0 lead into the break.
Frank Lampard made two changes in the second half with Antonio Rudiger and Marcos Alonso coming on for Mason Mount and Andreas Christiansen respectively.

But Chelsea unable to create the opening with Chris Wilder men defending every bit of attack thrown at them, leaving the Blues more frustrated.
Christian Pulisic was also sacrificed for Olivier Giroud later on and Recce James made way for Callum Huson-Ndoi.
Sheffield United made it 3-0 in the 77th minute from a brilliant counter-attacking move that saw Lys Mousset’s final ball was not properly cleared by Rudiger as McGoldrick was at the right place to grab his brace.
Mousset missed a golden chance to make it 4-0 as he was left one-on-one with Kepa Arrizabalaga but the French striker’s chip went just wide.
Chelsea had their best chance in the game in the 87th minute as Tammy Abraham could not get the required contact on the ball making it an easy catch for Henderson.
It ended 3-0 in favour of the Blades as they continue their pursuit of European football next season.
