Church leaders now want all aspirants seeking re-election in the August election held accountable on the promises they made in the last election.

Led by National Council of Churches in Kenya (NCCK) Narok Chapter chairman Reverend Samuel Naikumi and Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) Narok chairman Ali Juma, the leaders highlighted the need to hold public forums to assess what elected leaders have done in their tenure and whether they are fit for re-election.

Rev Naikumi said spiritual leaders will hold a forum with the aspiring governors where they will present a community manifesto and residents will be given a chance to question the aspirants on their agenda.

“We will hold community forums where we will look at issues affecting our county and which ones to prioritize. We will bring all the groups together so that we can hear from them what they plan for our County if elected,” he said.

The meeting also invited representatives from the Maasai Council of Elders, Peace Committee, Youth groups, women, persons living with disability and the boda boda sector to deliberate on issues affecting the county.

They singled out reviving the agriculture sector, improving health services and solving land issues as some the areas the leaders should prioritize if elected.

“When elected they forget the common man because there are no avenues to hold them accountable. We want to develop structures to account for their time in office,” he added.

Juma said residents must be involved in development projects so that they can highlight what they think will help them.

“We have convened and tried to evaluate the development projects in the county but we realise a majority of the projects on roads, stadium, water project, sewerage system, were initiated and implemented by the National government,” He said.
