Flora Mtegoa, the mother of the late veteran actor Stephen Kanumba, has opened up on why she decided to hark back to acting.

In an interview with Global TV, Mtegoa stated that she used to act during her days in school but called it quits after she was married.

“I have always been talented. In high school, I used to act, but after that, I became a wife and a mother. So I stopped acting, and I put that dream aside. I think nlijisahau.”

She opened up that she decided to return to the arena after Kanumba’s death in 2012, divulging that he was her breadwinner and his passing meant that none was there to provide for her.

“When I gave birth to him (Kanumba), I could see he had the talent to act. He would ask me to watch his shows and advise him on where to improve.

Seeing how I struggled to raise them, he told me to stop working once he became famous through his acting career.”

Mtegoa has other kids who are providing for her, but Kanumba was the most successful among them, considering that he was an accomplished actor with many TV shows under his belt.

“Given I was not lacking anything as my other kids were also providing for me, I did not tell him I wanted to act. I started acting one year after his death.”

Stephen Kanumba died of injuries sustained when he smashed his head on a wall after falling down a staircase.

He had been rushed to Muhimbili National Referral Hospital after the incident but was pronounced dead thereafter.
