Residents of Terik ward in Nandi South have petitioned the Nandi county assembly to explain the circumstances under which Sh5 million meant for the construction of a polytechnic in the area was redirected to other wards without their consent.
The 30 residents dispatched a petition to assembly clerk Barnabas Kosgey in the company of their MCA Osborn Komen vowing not to relent until their grievances are addressed to their own satisfaction.
Addressing the media outside the assembly after depositing the petition to the clerk’s desk, the residents claimed that Terik ward has been marginalised for too long and the people are not ready to let it go.
They said that the funds were allocated to the project after the residents themselves gave it a priority during a public participation conducted by the county assembly in the area. They also claimed that their desire to have a hospital constructed in the area through a contribution of Sh10 million given by William Ruto have been frustrated by the county government with its reluctance in releasing the funds.

Mengeech

Komen who was flanked by his Ol Lessos counterpart Emmanuel Mengeech claimed that he lobbied for the money from the deputy president over the hospital but he is now surprised that the county is not playing tricks after receiving the money.
He says the contractors doing projects in his ward are threatening to abandon them because of lack of goodwill from the county which is supposed to supervise, coordinate and pay for work done.
He blamed two of his colleagues who head crucial committees in the assembly for using their positions and proximity to county leadership to frustrate development in his ward. The MCA said that devolution, as enshrined in the constitution, was meant to address inequality and marginalisation but regretted that as things stand for his people, the dream will not be realised.
