The magistrate gave the police 24 hours to present Lali at a Garsen court to take his plea.

“I allowed the decision by the DPP to be taken to the next stage for murder plea taking…If unable to present him within 24 hours, then he should be given police bond,” Temba said.

Tecra died in the afternoon of Saturday, May 2, following a tragic accident in her partner’s house.

Lali, 50, was subsequently arrested on May 4 and detained for 21 days on suspicion he was involved with her death.

He was accused of providing inconsistent statements in relation to the incident but was released on May 26, by principal magistrate Allan Temba.

He first said she fell in the bathroom and later changed the narrative and said she fell from a flight of stairs.

The defendant however, denied the allegations but the police were satisfied with the evidence gathered saying the death was not accidental.

The magistrate had in his ruling argued the police had visited the crimes scene three times and the suspect fully cooperated.

The 50-year-old was reportedly living with Tecra in a private residence in Lamu where she allegedly fell from the balcony to her death.

At the time of her demise, she was the was the strategy and innovations director at her parents company Keroche Breweries.

The late was buried on May 16 at a private family ceremony attended by ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Keroche Breweries founders Joseph and Tabitha Karanja are blessed with four children namely: Anerlisa Muigai, James Karanja, Edward Muigai and the late Tecra.

Unlike her sister Anerlisa, Tecra kept a low profile and was hardly on social media platforms like her sibling who boasts of celebrity status.

The firm has been battling with Kenya Revenue Authority over a tax payment stalemate.
