At the moment, the body of retired President Mwai Kibaki is being ferried to Othaya in Nyeri County from the Nairobi’s Lee Funeral Home.

In Othaya, tension is building up after a section of politicians and State-allied bloggers claimed that some local leaders have hatched a plot to have Kibaki’s State Funeral disrupted.

Those complaining allege that Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, both allies of Deputy President William Ruto, have hired groups of youths to cause mayhem.

According to them, young people have been paid to cheer and jeer some leaders.

The squad has allegedly been instructed to cheer Dr Ruto, but shout down President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Kiruga Thuku, who is the Chinga MCA, one of the wards in Othaya, confirmed that Rigathi and Kahiga have been mobilising the people to show up in large numbers to bid the final goodbye to the former Head of State, who for many years served as area MP.

However, Kiruga denied that Ruto allies have sponsored violence in the national function, which will also be graced by Heads of State from other countries.

On the other hand, supporters of the DP argue that their master will be cheered more than Uhuru and Raila combined “because the ground supports Ruto”.

They add that President Kenyatta and Raila’s supporters are just “hallucinating chaos” in anticipation of overwhelming reception the second in command will get.

In yesterday’s State Funeral of Kenya’s third President, the DP got all the attention after mourners cheered him excessively.

Nyeri Catholic Archbishop Anthony Muheria had to remind the crowd that they were in a funeral.
