Elected leaders, senior politicians and members of the public from Nyamira and Kisii counties have endorsed Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i to contest for the presidency come 2022 general elections.
The leaders also put on notice a section of leaders from the Kisii community they claimed are being used by some political forces from outside the region to undermine Matiang’i.
They came in big numbers, put aside their party and political differences and joined hands in supporting the no-nonsense minister for the top seat when that time dawns.

Governor John Nyangarama

The MPs, senators and a host of MCAs and Nyamira governor John Nyagarama told Matiang’i to prepare to represent the community in the fight for the country’s top leadership after Uhuru Kenyatta.
In what they termed as Gesiaga Declaration they told Matiang’i to his face that he must rise to the occasion of becoming the Gusii community’s torchbearer in the country’s next elections.

Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyonka

The leaders who included MPs Richard Onyonka (Kitutu Chache South), Samuel Arama (Nakuru West) and Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), Ben Momanyi (Borabu) together with women reps Jerusha Momanyi (Nyamira), Janet Ongera (Kisii) and senators Okong’o Mogeni (Nyamira) and Sam Ongeri (Kisii); Nyamira county assembly speaker Moffat Teya, leader of majority Duke Masira, former MPs Walter Nyambati, Joseph Kiangoi and 20 MCAs said that time has come a Kisii should also be voted as a president in this country.
Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi sent his apologies but said he was supporting other local leaders who were meaning good to the community.
West Mugirango MP Benson Kegoro who was also present started the debate by saying Gusiis elected leaders should be keen on elevating Matiang’i to the top echelons of power, mentioning Chief Justice David Maraga, Solicitor General Ken Ogeto and Matiang’i as the community’s uniting factors
