It will be the rapper’s first major public appearance since the Astroworld tragedy.
Travis Scott will perform at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) on Sunday, May 15th. The BBMAs performance will mark Scott’s first major public appearance since the 2021 Astroworld Festival that left 10 people dead.
Although Travis is a controversial pick for the BBMAs, he is hardly the only controversial figure scheduled to perform on Sunday. Morgan Wallen, who has only just returned from a temporary exile for uttering a racial slur that was caught on video, will also be performing.
In addition to Scott and Wallen, the 2022 Billboard Music Awards will feature performances from Burna Boy, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, Rauw Alejandro, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mary J. Blige, Florence and the Machine, Maxwell, Silk Sonic, Ed Sheeran, Becky G, Elle King, and Miranda Lambert.
Sean “Diddy” Combs is the executive producer of the show and also its host. This week, Diddy backed Billboard’s choice of performers in an Instagram video in which he stated, “So one of the things I’m doing directly is cancelling the cancelled. That’s breaking news because people haven’t been about cancelling. But cancelling is a trend that needs to stop.”
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at 3 am EAT.
