The recent revelations that Jubilee secretary general Raphael Tuju is working closely with Raila Odinga ahead of 2022 elections is a clear pointer of favourable political ground to the once rejected politicians in Nyanza for defying the ODM leader.

Ken Obura

Already, two former MPs from the region who backed Jubilee in the last general elections seem to be reaping big from the handshake between Uhuru Kenya and Raila.
Former Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura and his Karachuonyo counterpart James Rege are plotting a comeback and their moves are said to be sending jitters across Nyanza region where they are eyeing gubernatorial posts in their respective counties.
Obura has been conducting harambees across Kisumu county in company of top government officials as he prepares the ground for a bruising duel with Governor Anyang Nyong’o in 2022 elections.
Weekly Citizen is privy to a secret meeting between Rege and Raila held at the ODM party leader’s Capitol Hill office in the company of a senior ODM official.

James Rege

Rege has had his rural home under 24-hour police surveillance after he ditched Raila to Jubilee in the runup to the last general elections.
But since the famous handshake, Rege has steadily gained popularity and could pull surprises.
The changing political linings in Luo land could probably herald a new dawn especially in the Southern Nyanza region and bolster the soft spoken, careful and meticulous politician into a national, if not regional player in the new dispensation.
Hostility against government leaning politicians and outright insults and violence by the Luo community against government and undermining developments initiated by successive governments has seen the region lag behind in terms of development.
