George Maina has been appointed as new Tusker FC assistant coach.
Eleven time Kenyan Premier League winners Tusker FC has announced the appointment of George Maina as the new assistant coach.
Maina takes over from Charles Okere who was appointed as the national women’s soccer team, Harambee Starlets, head coach.
George Maina, a former player with the brewers, who has been at the helm of the National Division One side ,Naivas FC , will deputize head coach Robert Matano.
George Maina replaces Charles Okere who was appointed Harambee Starlets head coach.
Maina returns to the club having served under the same role nine years ago.

“Tusker is like home to me because I have been here for many years as a player and as a coach. I am glad to be back. When coach Matano asked whether I could come work with him, I couldn’t say no. I have worked with him before, he has coached me as a player and he is a person I hugely respect’’, Maina said
Head Coach Robert Matano expressed confidence of the two leading the club to success.
“We have worked together for a long time and when the opportunity arose to have him back, I did not hesitate to ask him whether he could come. We continue the work and hopefully we win more trophies together’’,Matano said.
George Maina and Robert Matano hope to recapture the Kenyan Premier league title which the club last won in 2016.
Club chairman Daniel Aduda said on the appointment:
“George is a club legend having achieved so much at Tusker both as a player and as a coach. We are pleased to have him in and better because he knows the fabric of the club and it will not be hard for him to get started. I want to wish him all the best as he starts his job and hopefully we win trophies together.”

The action was halted after 16 rounds following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s address on March 16th which put on hold sporting activities so as to control the spread of corona virus in the country. The restrictions have since been revised with FKF indicating that the League might resume on May 12th.
